Women’s Health (191)

The womb (uterus in medical terms) is a key organ that defines women and their reproductive potential. As soon as reproductive maturity is achieved, the uterus always keeps itself ready for carrying a pregnancy. It’s a dynamic organ that responds in a predictable manner to female hormones that are produced by the ovaries.

Induction of labor is the artificial process of initiating the onset of labor. About 1 in every 5 expectant women will require induction of labor for various reasons. Induced labor aims to mimic natural labor, and is entirely safe.

Gynecological health screening has been proven to prevent certain cancers and other serious diseases. Women should adhere to recommended screening programs. Often questions arise about when to commence screening, frequency of screening visits, what to be screened for and when to stop.

Gynecological care has changed dramatically over the last decade. Medical advances, coupled with advanced technology have merged together to create novel frontiers in the care of women.

Every pregnant woman should have antenatal care (ANC) under the supervision of a skilled health worker, and in a well-equipped facility. Skilled ANC providers include Midwives and Obstetricians, often working together as a team.
