Make yourself disease-proof

Ever heard of anybody who was disease-proof? That means an individual who never falls ill, never needs to go to hospitals, and lives long enough to reach their predetermined life expectancy. Disease-proof may be utopian, but you can take steps that could take you there. Good health is built every day, over the course of a lifetime, in the places we work, and learn, and play, and pray, and love, and live. Or it isn’t. Healthcare systems cannot fix our health, no matter how sophisticated. Such systems can only treat diseases, and even postpone deaths. But at very high costs. We have the power within us to disease-proof ourselves, if only we tried hard enough.

Scientific evidence exists to support the fact that we can slash our risks for all chronic diseases by as much as 80%. We are talking of major diseases like diabetes, heart disease, cancers, and infections like HIV among others. The benefits are enormous, and span through family generations. But what skills do we need to make ourselves disease-proof? Simple really, and we all have these skills within us. And we can summon the willpower to exercise such skills whenever we want. Nothing new or groundbreaking, only a conscious effort is required.

We have all heard about the perils of smoking, obesity, sedentary lifestyles, and excessive drinking. Enough has been advised about sleeping under mosquito nets, and safe sex practices. The list is endless. And we all know that it is in our interest to cultivate healthy behavior. But why do we not do it? We have to wait for Big Sam, aka Mututho, to enact laws against smoking and excessive drinking. As if that is not enough, we need constant reminding about healthier diets and the need to use condoms to prevent sexual infections and HIV.

You can choose to take better control of your own health destiny. You know the road to better health, this is the route to take. Encourage your family and friends to join you too. Bringing down your risk of disease by close to 80% is not such a bad thing. You can avoid hospitals, doctors and endless medications. You’ll have more fun living your life, more savings from unneeded healthcare and never again require sick-off days.

Trying our best to be disease-proof does not mean that something will not creep up behind our backs. Get any such creepy and unusual symptoms checked promptly. The earlier the symptoms are nipped in the bud, the greater the chance of cure before chronicity sets in. Remember, hospitals are pretty good at curing illnesses, don’t shun them off completely.

If we collectively disease-proofed ourselves, we would revolutionize the health of our nation. Lots of savings in healthcare, improved productivity and longer healthier lives. Who wouldn’t want that? If you want more convincing, get yourself a copy of ‘Disease proof’, a compelling read.
