Being aware of your fertility status helps with appropriate planning for parenthood. A good example is women approaching the age of 40. They should be keenly aware of declining egg numbers and quality, and hence take steps to conceive sooner than later. Or opt to preserve their eggs for future use.
Apple and Facebook have recently offered to pay for the cost of egg freezing as a benefit for their female employees. Frozen eggs are literally banked for use in the future, when the time is right to have a family. It’s an artificial way of fertility preservation, in attempts to negate the natural fertility decline with age. This lessens the pressure on women to conceive within certain age limits.
Fertility potential declines with age. Peak fertility is usually in the 20s, then an accelerated decline occurs from the mid-30s. From the 4th decade onwards, only a small number of women will conceive spontaneously.
