The definition of health is somewhat controversial. The WHO’s definition is the most quoted, stating health to be “a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” This definition was formalized over half a century ago, but has since been challenged by others.
Many pregnancies are unplanned, and most couples do not seek pre-pregnancy advice. This translates into some conceptions occurring in the absence of optimal health, sometimes leading to avoidable pregnancy complications.
Some folk appear to get sick more often than others. Some will end up getting a definite diagnosis. Others will go through a thorough medical evaluation and nothing the matter will be found.
